New found love of Andy Goldsworthy...
Being trained in textiles and surface design Ive always found and looked out for patterns in most things including nature, to inspire work on print, patterns and drawings. Actually making sculptural patterns and art out of textures and surfaces found in nature is probably something that stops at the age of ten when you finish climbing trees and drawing circles in dry mud with your collection of treasured and varied twigs. Ive just re-discovered the artist Andy Goldsworthy, a name Im sure my GCSE art teacher will have thrown around a bit, but its only now Ive come to appreciate his work. Im feeling a week of experimental constructed textiles coming on!
"Andy Goldsworthy, OBE (born 26 July 1956) is a British sculptor, photographer and environmentalist living in Scotland who produces site-specific sculpture and land art situated in natural and urban settings. His art involves the use of natural and found objects, to create both temporary and permanent sculptures which draw out the character of their environment".

Great Surface//Philia sales at Christmas Designers Marketplace...
Surface//Philia made a killing at yesterdays Designers Marketplace in Middlesbrough Town Hall! Sold a stack of mugs and took a bunch of commissions... most importantly got so much great feedback from men and women alike. Had a few loyal fans of the brand come along and buy into the new products which is very humbling and encouraging... now I have to get my online shop up and running and get these babies online!

Surface//Philia Bar Commission: Blue Bunny Cafe
Well Surface//Philia has finally got its first ever interior commission finished and put up at The Blue Bunny Cafe in Newcastle. Elements have been taken from my new 'Native' project and combined with my signature swirl pattern. Also just want to say massive 'big up' to Jamie Fry for all his patience and help with vectoring (bah!) and putting the vinyl up! ;)
